Sustainable Design Programs

Energy-efficient windows are integral to meeting the criteria of programs that endorse sustainable home design. Sustainable design adds value to a home through energy efficiency, a healthy living space, and a reduced impact on the environment.

Two prominent national sustainable home programs are LEED for Homes and the National Green Building Standard. The U.S. Green Building Council has also compiled a list of regional and local green home programs.

LEED® for Homes

LEED for Homes is an initiative designed to promote the transformation of home building practices toward more sustainability. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and is administered by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The LEED Rating System recognizes builders for meeting high standards in terms of durability, health, reduced environmental impact, and energy efficiency.
